9/4/2023 0 Comments Bought scrivener for mac![]() So I guess you could say I’ve been looking forward to seeing Scrivener on iOS for awhile now. (At the time, the iPad wasn’t available in the UK.) I was hoping he’d get addicted to the iPad and immediately put all effort into developing an iPad application. Within an hour of using my first iPad, I remember thinking, “Now I need Scrivener.” How badly did I want Scrivener? So much so that I acted as errand-boy for the Scrivener developer and bought an iPad (with his money) and mailed it to him. Scrivener was my original “White Whale” app for the iPad. I have to use alternative software to capture my spelling errors and in the mean time I am left with red underlines I have to ignore. In searching the archive, I found my first review of Scrivener on MacSparky in 2007. The only other downside is it doesn’t offer spell check in British English as far as I can see. It took a little bit of time to set up in a way I was comfortable with, but once I found that, I haven’t looked back. It is a one stop shop. Finally the ease with which I can compile a complete novel at the end is priceless for the editing process. The synopsis and document notes aspect and reporting tools also help with keeping my on track and allow me to keep note of important items that I know I may need later. The fact you can keep track of all your scenes on the left hand side of the screen makes flipping backwards and forwards a simple task when you are writing and want to check up on something. (I have recently moved away from using it on the planning side as I want the space I was using for editing purposes as it will be more beneficial) But until recently it has been my one stop shop!Scriveners set up is perfect for writing in scenes or chapters, and allows you to move these around easily with its drag and drop functionality. As a planner, I have used Scrivener to plan and write my novels over the past couple of years. Scrivener has revolutionised my writing practice. This however is an annoyance, not a deal breaker. This software is easy to use and I would recommend it to any writer thinking about starting out. Yes, it took me a while to get to grips with all its functionality, but it is now second nature. It has made the writing process painless. Opmerkingen: Scrivener has revolutionised the way I write. Settings configuration and interface are very unintuitive. Indexing and contents pages with page numbers is a process that gives me nightmares. Compiling process is complex and, as yet, I've not mastered it. Windows version works OK, but there's no Android version. Seems to be designed primarily for Mac users. I've used it for two books of 80,000 words. I've tried many other authoring programs and LibreOffice and Word, and find Scrivener suits my requirements best. Good backup features, saving as draft to DropBox for use on Android and auto-syncing back to PC. Good for keeping research, notes, images with the manuscript. Broad adoption in many countries and active support community. While I congratulate the designers, I admit to not liking Scrivener - but it is the best of the bunch.Įxcellent user manual. Basic writing, scene organisation, editing are all 10/10 fine, but for anything below the surface, users can expect an arduous learning curve. ![]() Opmerkingen: My impression is that most software for authors is designed by IT people with insufficient collaboration with authors. Additionally, the software is only available for Mac and Windows, so users of other operating systems are out of luck. The learning curve can be steep, as there are a lot of features and settings to learn in order to get the most out of it. While Scrivener is a great tool for writers, it is not without its faults. The ability to easily switch between different views and documents makes it easy to keep track of the structure and progress of a project. It offers a wealth of features, including an intuitive user interface, an advanced outlining tool, and an integrated search and indexing system. Scrivener is an incredibly powerful and versatile writing tool that is perfect for organizing research, drafting and editing manuscripts, and compiling a finished work. Despite a steep learning curve, Scrivener is a great choice for serious writers. It is comprehensive, intuitive, and feature-rich, making it ideal for organizing, drafting, and editing manuscripts. Opmerkingen: Overall, Scrivener is an excellent writing tool for authors of all levels.
